Join the ALPA Board! The Asylum Lake Preservation Association is looking for three new board members.
For more than three decades, ALPA has worked to protect the Asylum Lake Preserve — through hands-on stewardship, advocacy, and bringing the community together around this special place. Our board keeps that mission going, and we’re adding three new members to help carry it forward. The roles below are currently open. If you care about the Preserve and want to help shape its future, we’d love to hear from you.
Open Roles
Membership Chair: Keeps the voting membership list current — names, mailing and email addresses, and phone numbers — and makes the Regular and Voting membership lists available to the Board of Directors on request.
Vice-President: Steps in for the President whenever called upon, and presides at meetings in the President’s absence.
Board Member at Large: Takes on specific issues and projects as determined by the Board. A flexible role where you can put your particular skills and interests to work for the Preserve.
What We’re Looking For
You don’t need to be an expert — just engaged, dependable, and ready to pitch in. Ideal candidates bring:
Genuine passion for the Preserve — this is what drives everything we do
A people-first, collaborative spirit — comfortable working alongside others and out in the community
Solid writing skills — board work involves drafting letters and communications
Basic tech comfort — Google Drive and Microsoft Office
The Time Commitment
One board meeting per month
Additional volunteer time toward board responsibilities, which may include drafting letters, hands-on work at the Preserve on small projects, coordinating with volunteers, and co-hosting events

Note: Every person who reaches out shares something we deeply value — a love for this Preserve and a willingness to give their time to protect it. We’re grateful for that, and we wish we could sit down with each of you. Given our limited board capacity right now, we’ll only be able to follow up with the candidates we’ll be interviewing. Whether or not we connect this time, we hope you’ll stay involved — there are always meaningful ways to support the Preserve.
